Artwork by Sarah Penston
My artwork is always riddled with symbolism. I get lost in the meaning of each element portrayed. Pieces are typically on the macabre side and reflect my inner most thoughts and feelings. I also use my art to communicate how I feel to loved ones. I have a thing for anatomical hearts and exposing what’s on the “inside”. I enjoy using animal bones (all sourced direct from nature) to create “new life”. They are reflective of the life-death cycle and how new meaning and purpose can come from death. Death can be beautiful and has significant symbolism beyond simply the notion of death as an end to existence. As we are constantly evolving and changing, we shed layers of ourselves, both physically and metaphorically. We are in an infinite cycle of death and rebirth.
